We Only Use the Most Bio-Available B12
We use methlycobalamin (methyl-B12) or hydroxocobalamin (hydroxo-B12) 100% of the time - NO exceptions! Methyl-B12 and hydroxo-B12 are the most bio-available forms of B12. A cheap, but stable form called cyanocobalamin is often used in supplements purchased in drugstores or in injections used in the conventional medical setting such as weight loss clinics. Cyanocobalamin not only contains a cyanide molecule which is a toxin, but it also requires co-factors to convert it to the active forms of B12 which some people are genetically unable to do.
Why B12 is So Important
Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause:
-
Fatigue
-
Anxiety
-
Depression
-
Nerve damage such as neuropathy
-
Memory loss
-
Sleep problems
-
Balance problems
-
Food & environmental allergies
-
Weight gain
-
B12 is necessary for the formation of the myelin sheath around nerves. B12 helps safeguard against allergies and also stimulates the production of TH1 suppressor T cells that down-regulate IgE antibody production. B12 optimizes cellular metabolism and improves energy; key components in weight loss!
Medications that Block or Reduce B12 Absorption
-
Metformin
-
Proton Pump Inhibitors such as Nexium, Prevacid, Prilosec, & Protonix
-
Ant-Acids such as Pepcid, Zantac & Tagamet
-
Alcohol
-
Aspirin
Vegetarians & Vegans
B12 primarily comes from animal protein sources. So unless vegetarians and vegans consume foods that have been fortified with B12. They are at risk for B12 deficiency.
Cassava Root and Hydroxocobalamin
Cassava contains linamarin, a cyanide molecule. While the levels of linamarin are lowest in the root and cooking reduces the levels further, consuming a lot of cassava root over time can lead to the potential accumulation of cyanide in the body. Cassava has become an increasingly popular starch as it is a great alternative for people on a gluten-free diet. Many gluten-free baked goods and flours contain cassava root flour. Chronic low-level cyanide exposure can lead to the development of thyroid disorders and neuropathy. Fortunately, cyanide is effectively removed from the body with hydroxocobalamin. If you regularly consume cassava root, it never hurts to supplement with hydroxocobalamin to clear any cyanide buildup.
